The Twilight Hours

Twilight, those few hours after one day and before the other, this small amount of moments in between tomorrow and today; not here anymore but also not quite there yet, not unlike the transition I am going through right now.

It’s in this time in-between, when things often dawn on you. When you lie awake, unable to close your eyes in fear of what might be lurking in the dark if you do.  But among those things dwelling in the un-light behind your eyelids, realization is hiding and when you lie there and listen very closely, you might be able to tell its voice apart from all the other growls and the howling that is eating away your sleep. It’s not an easy undertaking, as often enough the insight comes along just as nightmarish as the other ghoulish thoughts. Yet it pays to find it – even trying to is deemed a worthwhile task, since despite its frequently questionable attire and often enough very uncomfortable feel, only realization is getting you further on the shadowy path that is your future.

So if you are actually able to find it – or as it more often will be the case: if it finds you – don’t reject it because it scares you. Don’t ignore it because it makes your head spin and feel sick. Its light might sting your eyes at first like the new sun rising above the hilltop, but try not to shy away from the radiance. Embrace it, for it could be your only chance to illuminate a small part of the uncertain trail ahead. Maybe only a few strides, but these might be all you need to step out of the twilight into a new day.
